CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of leading police on a chase early Friday morning.
Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said Cedar Rapids police officers attempted to pull over 36-year-old DeWayne S. Williams in the 600 block of First Avenue East around 1:20 a.m. Friday. Rather than stop, Williams led officers on a chase along Seventh Street SE, 12th Avenue SE, McCarthy Road SE, Memorial Drive SE and into Bever Park.
Police said while driving through Bever Park, Williams spun out on wet pavement and collided with the pursing officer's squad car. The squad car sustained minor damage, Buelow said.
Williams took off on foot and was caught on Blake Boulevard just outside of the park, police said. No one was injured in the pursuit.
Williams faces numerous charges, including drunk driving, interference with official acts and eluding, as well as an assortment of moving offenses. He also was wanted on two warrants, including one for escape from custody, Buelow said.
A passenger in Williams' vehicle, 35-year-old Angela O'Shogay, was also arrested. She faces charges of public intoxication and interference with official acts.
