The number of students in Cedar Rapids schools charged with a crime fell by nearly 50 percent last school year, the result of work by a group violence intervention program that aims to prevent crime.

Aaron T. Rich, 22, had stolen a gun from southwest side store on Aug. 5 shortly before leading police on a chase in Cedar Rapids, police said. The chase ended with Rich being shot following a pursuit, in which he allegedly pointed a gun at officers.

The shooting happened following a pursuit which ended in the 1200 block of 15th St. SE around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. The Iowa Division of Investigation will continue to investigate the incident.

Iowa City Police are investigating a shooting just before 3 a.m. Sunday in which four people were injured in the 600 block of E. Court St.
