Plans calling for the construction of 89 new single-family houses east of the Rompot neighborhood and the site of Cargill’s contentious rail yard project got the green light from the City Planning Commission this week.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a new $10 million pilot program to support the development of ways to turn agriculture residue into products for consumers and construction.

Cargill said Friday it will scale back its business activities and has stopped investment in Russia. But the company declined to specify where and how.
