Mark Butland will be the first full-time director of the Iowa EdTech Collaborative, Iowa City Area Development Group said Tuesday morning.
Butland had been the dean of Kirkwood Community College’s Iowa City campus since July 2019, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously taught at Texas State University, Baylor University and Austin Community College.
He spent more than 26 years at Austin Community College, including three years as the faculty senate president.
“Leading the Iowa EdTech Collaborative will be an opportunity to think big, make meaningful connections and drive impactful change in classrooms across the United States while growing our local and state economy,” Butland said in a news release.
ICAD received funding to hire a full-time director, among other projects, through a $393,184 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
Kate Moreland, ICAD president, told The Gazette in April having a full-time director will help “connect the dots” between participating organizations and “really allow us to move faster.”
The Iowa EdTech Collaborative is a group of businesses, economic development groups and other organizations focused on growing the education-technology industry in Iowa.
