The field is set for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state golf tournament. Here is the list of individuals and teams that will compete May 29-30.

State track and field, 3A boys: Five events, four champions -- CPU’s Nathan Miller (400), Western Dubuque’s Quentin Nauman (3,200), CCA’s Landon Prince (discus) and Benton’s Eli Patterson (high jump) all strike gold.

Not only will Benton Community sophomore Halle Sobaski return to the Class 3A state golf meet, but her Bobcat teammates will be playing alongside her. Sobaski was runner-up medalist and the Bobcats placed second in the regional at Manchester’s Pin Oak Golf Club Wednesday, advancing to state.

They spent their summer days, winter mornings and spring evenings working on their golf games and the Solon Spartans have parlayed it into another successful golf season.

Kirkwood softball has persevered injury and staved off elimination to return to NJCAA Softball World Series, beginning on Monday in Oxford, Ala.

Kirkwood Coach Eric Frese has seen the progress made by freshman Jessa DeMoss. He had confidence in her to open the postseason and she responded with a complete game two-hitter in a 5-1 win over Northeast.
