CEDAR RAPIDS — The second boys’ basketball rankings of the season from the Iowa High School Athletic Association were released Monday. They included a new No. 1 team in Class 3A.
That would be Clear Lake, which took over the top spot from Decorah. Cedar Rapids Kennedy (4A), West Lyon (2A) and North Linn (1A) remain top ranked in their respective classes.
Decorah lost Friday night at home to Waverly-Shell Rock, 84-57, dropping it from first to fifth in 3A. Waverly-Shell Rock moved up from fifth to third.
Clear Lake inched up from the second spot. The Lions and No. 4 Solon are the lone unbeaten teams in the class at 9-0.
Mount Vernon (8-2) joined the 3A rankings at 10th, with Cedar Rapids Xavier and Williamsburg dropping out.
Kennedy (8-0) is a strong No. 1 in Class 4A, followed by West Des Moines Valley (7-2), Dubuque Senior (8-0), North Scott (8-1) and Waukee (8-3), in that order.
The Cougars impressed in a 65-54 win Saturday afternoon over Waukee at the MVC-CIML Shootout in Cedar Rapids. Kennedy built over a 20-point lead in the game.
Waukee stunned Valley, 82-81, in double overtime Friday night on a shot at the final buzzer from well beyond midcourt. The 4A top 10 remained the same, though there was some shuffling.
Iowa City West (8-1) moved up from 10th to eighth after a pair of wins last week, Cedar Falls fell from sixth to ninth after a loss to 3A No. 7 Davenport Assumption, and Linn-Mar went from fourth to 10th after losses to Cedar Falls (in overtime) and Valley.
The top five in 2A remained identical, with West Lyon on top, followed by Western Christian (9-1), Monticello (10-0), Hudson (9-1) and Carroll Kuemper (10-1).
The Tri-Rivers Conference has the top two teams in Class 1A in North Linn and Bellevue Marquette (11-0). They are scheduled to play late in the regular season.
The South Iowa Cedar League also has a pair of top-10 teams in No. 7 Keota (11-0) and No. 9 Lynnville-Sully (10-1). Keota won a pre-holiday matchup between those teams, 59-56.
Lansing Kee (12-0) stayed at No. 8. The IHSAA will release new rankings each Monday through the end of the regular season.
