CEDAR RAPIDS - Class 3A always seems to be the most topsy turvy class in boys’ basketball, and that continued again this week.
Clear Lake has taken over the top spot in the latest Iowa High School Athletic Association rankings, released Monday.
The Lions (13-0) are the lone undefeated team in 3A, after Huxley Ballard, last week’s No. 1, fell to North Polk, 57-52, this past Friday. Ballard (11-1) dropped all the way to fifth, with Decorah, MOC/Floyd Valley and Knoxville checking in second, third and fourth, respectively.
Cedar Rapids Xavier climbed from ninth last week to eighth this week.
In Class 4A, the top four teams remain the same.
It’s Cedar Falls at No. 1, followed by West Des Moines Valley (12-2), Cedar Rapids Kennedy (11-2) and Linn-Mar (12-2). CF (12-1) has two tougher games this week against Cedar Rapids Prairie and Waterloo West.
Waukee Northwest (13-3) moved into the fifth spot after a win last week over Waukee (10-3), those teams actually flipping positions. Dubuque Senior (10-2) remains seventh and Council Bluffs Lincoln (13-0) eighth.
West Des Moines Dowling (10-4) inched up from 10th to ninth. Ames is new to the rankings at No. 10.
Western Christian, Carroll Kuemper and West Lyon stayed at the top three spots in 2A. Cascade (13-2) inched up a spot from ninth to eighth, with fellow River Valley Conference member Iowa City Regina (14-1) entering for the first time this season, at ninth.
Bellevue Marquette (16-0) and Madrid (15-0) continued at the top two spots in 1A. Burlington Notre Dame and Algona Garrigan entered, with North Linn falling out after an overtime loss last week to 2A Alburnett.
