Here are Gazette area players to watch as the 2025 Iowa high school baseball season starts Monday.
Mason Bechen, sr., North Linn – Batted .449 with a .598 on-base percentage, 35 hits, six triples, three home runs, 34 stolen bases and 31 RBIs, Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association first-team all-district and Class 1A first-team all-state.
Jack Casey, sr., C.R. Xavier – Batted .411 with .489 on-base percentage, 46 hits, eight doubles, 29 RBIs and 32 runs. First-team all-MVC Mississippi, second-team all-Metro and IHSBCA 4A second-team all-district.
Ty Donels, jr., C.R. Kennedy – Posted .371 batting average and .537 on-base percentage with 39 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 20 walks and 21 hit by pitches. Scored 58 runs and drove in 27. Second-team all-MVC Valley and IHSBCA 4A first-team all-district.
Colton Duerling, sr., C.R. Kennedy – Batted .394 with .504 on-base percentage with 41 hits, including four triples, 27 RBIs and 31 runs. Went 7-1 with 2.26 earned-run average and 1.00 walks/hits per innings pitched. IHSBCA Super Team all-state, first-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference Valley and second-team all-Metro.
Ty Fuller, sr., Clear Creek Amana – Batted .445 with .486 on-base percentage. Finished with 57 hits, 17 doubles, 30 RBIs, 40 runs and 74 total bases. First-team all-Wamac, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 3A first-team all-state.
Cole Griffith, sr., North Linn – Posted 7-2 record with 1.57 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched. Batted .414 with .489 on-base percentage, 48 hits, three triples and 29 RBIs. Tri-Rivers Conference West Co-Player of the Year. IHSBCA first-team all-district and 1A first-team all-state.
Anthony Harrington, jr., Midland – Posted 5-1 record with 0.84 ERA and 0.72 WHIP. Struck out 96 batters in 50 innings and held batters to .117 average. Totaled 26 hits, including seven doubles and six home runs. Batted .491 with .630 on-base percentage. Scored 26 runs and drove in 20. IHSBCA first-team all-district and 1A third-team all-state.
Brett Harris, jr., Western Dubuque – Finished with 6-2 record with 3.83 ERA. Batted .291 with a .531 on-base percentage with 43 walks. Amassed 30 hits, 35 RBIs and 40 runs. First-team all-MVC Valley, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 3A third-team all-state.
Cooper Hummel, sr., Cascade – Batted .351 with .519 on-base percentage. Tallied 26 hits, including 13 doubles and one home run, 25 walks, 17 RBIs and 18 runs. First-team all-River Valley Conference North, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 2A third-team all-state.
Maclane Morgan, sr., Clear Creek Amana – Tallied 53 hits, 10 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 31 RBIs. Scored 52 runs, batting .445 with a .560 on-base percentage. Stole 26 bases. Named first-team all-Wamac, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 3A first-team all-state.
Pryce Rochford, sr., Edgewood-Colesburg – Batted .466 with .557 on-base percentage with 34 hits, six home runs and 31 runs. Named first-team all-TRC West, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 1A first-team all-state.
Charlie Sarsfield, soph., Linn-Mar – Batted .367 with .484 on-base percentage. Totaled 47 hits, 46 runs, nine doubles, 24 walks, 21 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. Named first-team all-Metro, second-team all-MVC Valley and IHSBCA 4A second-team all-district.
Jaxton Schroeder, sr., Iowa City High – Posted 7-1 record with 1.69 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings pitched. Batted .379 with .509 on-base percentage. Tallied 39 hits, 11 doubles, and 29 runs. First-team all-MVC Valley, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 4A first-team all-state.
Isaiah Scott, jr., Marion – Scored 61 runs and batted .426 with 49 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples and a home run, and 32 RBIs. Ended with .541 on-base percentage. Went 2-0 with 2.50 ERA. First-team all-Wamac East, first-team all-Metro, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 3A second-team all-state.
Tait Tierney, jr., C.R. Prairie – Accumulated 41 hits, 26 walks, 31 runs and 19 RBIs. Batted .376 with a .485 on-base percentage. Compiled a 5-1 record with 1.22 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 23 innings. First-team all-MVC Mississippi, first-team all-Metro and IHSBCA 4A second-team all-district.
Braiden Todd, jr., South Winneshiek – Hit .495 with .589 on-base percentage. Amassed 48 hits with eight doubles, 40 runs and drove in 21. Compiled 3-2 record with two saves and 53 strikeouts in 46 innings. First-team all-Upper Iowa Conference, IHSBCA first-team all-district and 1A first-team all-state.
Mason Waterbury, sr., Iowa City Liberty – Finished 10-0 with 0.34 ERA, 0.79 WHIP. Struck out 68 batters, allowed just 33 hits and held batters to .156 average in 61 innings. MVC Mississippi Player of the Year and IHSBCA first-team all-district and 4A first-team all-state.
