Any Iowa hospital or clinic seeking Medicaid payment for providing an abortion would need approval from the state’s most prominent abortion opponent: Gov. Kim Reynolds. In more than six years as governor, she has never been asked to approve a Medicaid payment for an abortion.

Also, state announces new partnership to help employers hire military veterans

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird on Wednesday filed the legal case her team will present when the Iowa Supreme Court hears arguments around legislation that would prohibit the vast majority of abortions in the state.

"It’s never a 'terrible thing' to protect innocent life," the Iowa governor posted on social media.

The issue was prominent at an event held this past weekend in Iowa, hosted by the Christian conservative advocacy organization the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition.

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is likely to provide funding for emergency contraception for victims of sexual assault and rape as a state reimbursement program remains in limbo.
