Six Transamerica office buildings in Cedar Rapids for sale

Six Cedar Rapids office buildings formerly occupied by Transamerica are for sale, Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty said Thursday.

The six buildings - on two campuses - are located at 4333 Edgewood Rd. NE and 4425 and 4415 N. River Blvd. NE.

Coldwell Banker is listing the properties as a single-buyer opportunity.

Transamerica listed the properties as it consolidates office locations in Cedar Rapids to 6300, 6350 and 6400 C St. SW, which the company renovated to accommodate the larger occupancy.

'We have long been a part of the Cedar Rapids community and we want to attract investors who will make the best use of these assets,” Mark Polking, Transamerica's chief administrative officer, said in a news release.

The company had about 3,800 Cedar Rapids full-time-equivalent employees in mid-November, according to David Connolly, economic development specialist for the city of Cedar Rapids.

Transamerica laid off 53 employees in Cedar Rapids at the end of November, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.

Tata Consultancy Services - part of Mumbai, India-based Tata Group - offered jobs to almost 900 Transamerica employees in Cedar Rapids and 2,200 nationwide in 2018 when it took over administration of more than $10 million worth of Transamerica insurance policies.
