Iowa girls' state basketball 2021: Friday's scores, stats, game replays and more

The 2021 Iowa high school girls' state basketball tournament semifinals wrapped up Friday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, then Class 5A took center stage Friday night with the first state championship game of the week.

Friday's girls' state basketball scores
CLASS 2A SEMIFINALS
No. 1 Maquoketa Valley 47, No. 4 Nodaway Valley 45
Ella Imler made a pair of free throws with six seconds left and Maquoketa Valley (25-0) beat Nodaway Valley (24-1) in a battle of unbeatens.
After trailing by 10 in the third quarter, the Wolverines rallied to tie it on Macy Kuhns' three-point play with 45 seconds left. Imler was fouled on the floor on the next possession and made both ends of a one-and-one. After multiple timeouts, Nodaway Valley was unable to get a shot off at the other end.
Emerson Whittenbaugh led the Wildcats with a game-high 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Imler totaled nine points. Taya Tucker added nine points and six rebounds.
Maddax DeVault led Nodaway Valley with 15 points.

No. 2 Dike-New Hartford 57, No. 3 West Branch 47
Payton Petersen scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Dike-New Hartford (25-0) booked a spot opposite fellow unbeaten Maquoketa Valley in the Class 2A title game.
Rylan Druecker made her first seven shots, including three from 3-point range, and finished with 17 points as West Branch (21-2) stayed within striking distance. But the Bears didn't lead after Dike-New Hartford went up 12-6 with a 6-0 first-quarter run. Sasha Koenig scored 11 points but was 1-for-10 from 3-point distance.
Paula Gonzalez added 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting and eight rebounds for the Wolverines, who out-rebounded West Branch 50-22. Ellary Knock had 10 and eight.

CLASS 1A SEMIFINALS
No. 1 Algona Garrigan 57, No. 4 Exira-EHK 35
Audi Crooks totaled 17 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocks and Garrigan (25-1) returned to the Class 1A final after finishing second to Newell-Fonda last year.
Crooks was 7-of-12 from the field. Molly Joyce matched her with 17 points. The Golden Bears broke open a 9-9 game after one and led 31-16 at halftime.
Mollie Rasmussen led the Spartans (24-1) with nine points.
No. 2 Newell-Fonda 73, No. 6 Montezuma 34
After winning its state quarterfinal game by 41 points, Newell-Fonda (25-1) dominated again in the state semifinals.
The Mustangs jumped to a 28-10 lead after the first quarter and led 42-20 at halftime. Bailey and Macy Sievers both shot 6-of-9 from the floor, with Bailey scoring a game-high 15 points and Macy adding 12. Bailey had four assists and four steals, Macy six assists and three steals. Mary Walker added 12 points, Maggie Walker 11.
Montezuma (23-2) shot 23.7 percent (9-37) and had 25 turnovers. Elise Boulton led the Bravettes with nine points.

CLASS 5A CHAMPIONSHIP
No. 1 Waukee 71, No. 2 Johnston 43
Waukee (13-1) shot 69.2 percent, including 11-of-16 on 3-pointers and blasted Johnston to avenge last year's loss in the Class 5A title game.
Katie Dinnebier scored 29 points, making 11 of 14 shots from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point distance and was named all-tournament captain. Megan Earney made 4 of 5 treys and scored 14 points.
The Warriors led 42-29 at halftime after shooting 81.8 percent.
Zoey Buchan made three 3s and led Johnston (18-2) with 11 points. Jada Gyamfi had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
