Linn-Mar fires high school nurse

MARION - The Linn-Mar High School nurse under investigation for sexual interactions with a student was fired Monday from the school.

At its regular meeting, the Linn-Mar school board voted unanimously to terminate Angela Beik, who had been a full-time nurse at the school since August 2016.

Beik, 46, had been placed on paid leave March 20 'as soon as the district was made aware of the situation,” Linn-Mar Superintendent Quintin Shepherd said in a statement Tuesday.

'Student safety is our first and foremost concern,” according to the statement. 'The district takes all allegations related to abuse or harassment very seriously.”

Beik's conduct with a 16-year-old student came to light when she told two nurses at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital - where Beik was also employed - that she had had sex and received explicit material from the teenager, as court affidavit said.

As mandatory reporters, the nurses reported Beik to the Iowa Department of Human Services and their supervisors. The hospital has placed Beik on paid leave, a spokeswoman said.

Cedar Rapids police are investigating.
