Man facing indecent exposure charge now accused of threatening witness

A man accused of trespassing and indecently exposing himself to the occupants of a Cedar Rapids apartment last year was arrested again Wednesday on charges of tampering with a witness.

Patrick Martinson, 37, of Marion, threatened to sue a witness testifying in the lewdness case that stemmed from the incident, Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said in an email.

Martinson confronted the witness for cooperating with law enforcement and agreeing to testify, according to police, on the afternoon of June 4.

Tampering with witnesses or jurors is an aggravated misdemeanor and has a maximum penalty of two years in prison.

Martinson still is accused of indecent exposure and trespassing for an incident police say took place on or about June 3, 2017.

According to a criminal complaint, Martinson entered an apartment at 6622 College Park Court SW through an open window, exposed his genitals to the occupants and masturbated in front of them.

Indecent exposure is a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison. Trespassing is a simple misdemeanor, which carries a maximum 30-day sentence.

His jury trial is scheduled for July 16, court documents show.
