JOHNSON COUNTY - One man remains hospitalized and a Johnson County Sheriff's deputy is on administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting.
While authorities have said 32-year-old Bradley W. McNeese's injuries are not life-threatening, they released little additional information on the shooting. Johnson County Sheriff's Office Capt. Gary Kramer referred all questions to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, which is investigating the shooting.
DCI Special Agent in Charge Rich Rahn said investigators are still conducting interviews and gathering information on the shooting. He said until that process is complete, there's little he can say about the shooting, including providing a timeline of the incident.
'Once we get everything put together, we'll put something out down the road,” Rahn said. 'Right now, I can't answer those questions.”
What the DCI has released is that the Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempt to locate for McNeese, who was reportedly suicidal, at some point Monday night. Deputies and Iowa State Patrol troopers located McNeese near Swisher.
Authorities said McNeese fled from officers and a chase ensued. The chase ended near the intersection of Sandy Beach and Lake Manor roads near Solon in Johnson County. McNeese and a Johnson County deputy exchanged shots and McNeese suffered a gunshot wound.
Rahn could not say if McNeese's injury was self-inflicted, but did say it was non-life threatening. He was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The responding officers were not injured.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. The deputy's name is not being released at this time.
