CORALVILLE - A Coralville man is accused of assaulting a woman and holding her against her will last month.
According to Johnson County Sheriff's Office criminal complaints, deputies were called to the area of Isaac Walton Road on the outskirts of Iowa City around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 2 for a report of a woman who had been assaulted, choked and held against her will. Police said when they found the woman, she was 'hysterical,” injured and required transport to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Emergency Room.
The woman reported that 39-year-old Terrian D. Wilborn had choked her with his hand and forearm multiple times. Wilborn strangled the woman to the point that she passed out, police said. He also allegedly hit her several times, causing cuts to her face, arms and body.
The woman also told police that Wilborn refused to let her leave the area. He shut off her vehicle and took away her keys, police said.
Wilborn has been arrested and faces charges of willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony; false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor; and assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted of all offenses, Wilborn could spend up to eight years in prison.
According to online court records, Wilborn pleaded guilty to second-offense domestic assault in January of this year. Wilborn was given a two-year prison sentence, which was initially suspended, but later imposed after a probation violation. Iowa Department of Correction records indicate he was released from prison in July.
