CORALVILLE - A Coralville man faces robbery charges following an incident that police say took place outside a fast-food restaurant earlier this summer.
According to the Coralville Police Department, around 10:18 p.m. on June 28, 34-year-old Derrill Jones and a woman were in the parking lot at Taco John's, 204 Second St. in Coralville. Police said Jones asked the woman to give him money. When she refused, Jones allegedly shook his fist at her, causing the woman to fear for her well-being, police said.
Police said Jones took the woman's iPhone, which was valued at nearly $700.
Jones has been arrested and faces charges of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony; and third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted of both offenses, Jones could spend up to 12 years in prison.
