IOWA CITY - A conflict over a broken window escalated to gunfire early Monday morning, police said.
According to the Iowa City Police Department, officers responded to the area of 1100 Arthur St. around 12:49 a.m. Monday for multiple reports of shots fired. Responding officers found shell casings at the scene. An investigation into the matter revealed the shooting was the result of a monthlong conflict that stemmed from a broken window, Sgt. Scott Gaarde said Tuesday.
Witnesses said the shooting suspect had fled, but gave officers a description of his vehicle, which was quickly found at 1264 Esther Court, about a mile from the location of the shooting.
Police said 29-year-old D'Anthony D. Money, of Holland, Mich., was located outside of the residence attempting to flee the area. Officers later obtained a search warrant for the residence - which belongs to Money's sister - and discovered a firearm and ammunition with the aid of a University of Iowa police K9.
Money was originally arrested on an unrelated warrant for failure to appear on a probation revocation. He now faces charges of going armed with intent and possession of a firearm as a felon. Both offenses are Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. Money has convictions for felonies in 2006 and 2007, as well as domestic abuse convictions from 2004 and 2005, police said.
The address where Money was found is the other half a duplex where a shooting occurred on July 6. However, Gaarde said Monday's incident is not related to that event.
Police said additional charges are possible, pending the outcome of the investigation.
