CEDAR RAPIDS — The Feb. 6 shooting in rural Cedar Rapids was determined to be self-defense, and no charges will be filed, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
According to information released by the sheriff's office, the victim has declined to file charges in the case. The sheriff's office and Linn County Attorney's Office believe the shooter — a juvenile — was acting in self-defense.
Deputies and personnel with the Atkins Fire Department and Area Ambulance Service responded to a report of a domestic disturbance with shots fired in the 1400 block of Sisley Grove Road NW around 3:26 a.m. Feb. 6. There, authorities found an adult man suffering from two gunshot wounds. The shooter — the juvenile — was taken in for questioning, while the victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center and, later, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious injuries.
The shooting victim has since been released from the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.
