IOWA CITY - The daughter of the Johnson County attorney was arrested early Friday morning on drug charges.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 18-year-old Gabrielle K.L. Wadsworth, daughter of Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness, was pulled over around 1:24 a.m. Friday for driving the wrong way at the intersection of Jefferson and Governor streets in Iowa City.
Police said a K-9 officer circled the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Officers found marijuana, a homemade smoking device and a grinder in Wadsworth's purse.
Wadsworth was arrested and faces charges of possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
In a news release, Lyness said the case will be handled by the Muscatine County Attorney's Office because of the conflict of interest for her office to prosecute.
