CEDAR RAPIDS - An arrest has been made in a Tuesday night shooting that left a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, 58-year-old David Clancy, of Marengo, faces charges of attempted murder, going armed with intent and willful injury causing serious injury. He remains in custody at the Linn County Jail.
Cedar Rapids police responded to a report of a shooting at 9:13 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of Eighth Street SE. Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim - a 59-year-old man - suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the back.
The victim was treated by first responders and taken to a hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation into the shooting shows that Clancy had shown up at the victim's residence Tuesday evening. While there, an argument ensued and Clancy allegedly assaulted and shot the other man before fleeing the scene.
Police soon began surveillance on Clancy's home in Marengo. At 10:28 a.m. Tuesday, police arrested Clancy after a traffic stop at 1008 KK Ave. in Iowa County.
Attempted murder is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Willful injury causing serious injury is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Going armed with intent is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
