IOWA CITY - A homeless woman is accused of damaging cars and a window at the Shelter House.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 23-year-old Ilese L. Bynum was escorted off the Shelter House property around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Police said Bynum came back to Shelter House about 15 minutes later and, using two softball bats, broke out windows on three vehicles before breaking out the front window of the facility.
One subject inside told police when the front window shattered, he thought it was from a gun shot, so he dropped to the ground. The man suffered a cut to his elbow from the broken glass.
The damage to the vehicles and building was estimated at $1,700.
Bynum was arrested and faces charges of second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison; and trespass causing injury or damage greater than $200, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
