Fire causes $60,000 in damage to Iowa City apartment

IOWA CITY - A house fire did approximately $60,000 in damages to an Iowa City apartment Thursday night.
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a fire at 519 Fairchild St. at 10:35 p.m. Thursday. There, firefighters encountered a fire in the third floor apartment unit. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival, according to the fire department.
The only resident of the unit had evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
