IOWA CITY - A Coralville man faces charges in connection with two residential burglaries.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, a burglary occurred at a residence on South Johnson Street on Oct. 19. Among the items stolen was an Xbox One gaming system. Police said that gaming console was pawned a few days later by 29-year-old Marcus A. Abbott.
Police said Abbott was also developed as a suspect in a burglary at a residence on Burlington Street on Dec. 6. While investigating the Burlington Street burglary, officers found evidence that allowed them to obtain a search warrant for Abbott's Coralville home. The warrant was executed and officers found stolen property, including wallets, bags, an Xbox, games, computers, jewelry, tablets, electronic devices and Chinese currency.
Abbott claimed he bought the Xbox taken from Johnson Street, but could not prove that, police said. He was arrested and faces two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft. Both offenses are Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
