University of Iowa students accused of shopping spree with stolen credit card

IOWA CITY - Two University of Iowa students are accused of going on a shopping spree with a stolen credit card.
According to University of Iowa police criminal complaints, the victim reported that her wallet was taken from the Cambus on Nov. 4. The victim described a man standing behind her on the Cambus who matched the description of 19-year-old Frensua A. Hooker.
Police said a interviews, surveillance video and credit card records show Hooker and his friend, 18-year-old Danyelle Patton, made numerous purchases with a credit card stolen from the victim's wallet, including food, clothing and a bus ticket. Patton is also accused of using the credit card to send herself a $300 money order, which she used to purchase food, alcohol and marijuana, according to police.
While being interviewed about the alleged credit card theft, Patton allegedly deleted audio files from the investigator's recorder while he was away from the interview room and shut the recorder off on two separate occasions.
In a seemingly unrelated event, Hooker is also accused of stealing keys, a wallet and a student ID from a room in Currier Residence Hall on Oct. 25.
Patton is accused of nine counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor; tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor; two counts of fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor and three counts of fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor. Hooker is accused of three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, one count of fourth-degree theft and three counts of fifth-degree theft.
