Belle Plaine woman charged with dependent adult abuse

IOWA CITY - A Belle Plaine woman is accused of assaulting a dependent adult at an Iowa City rehabilitation center in April.
According to an Iowa City Police Department criminal complaint, 44-year-old Ann Hobbs was employed as a temporary nurse at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 3661 Rochester Ave., in April. Police said Hobbs' duties including dressing and feeding patients, as well as aiding them with toiletry use.
Hobbs was working on April 5 and during her shift, one of her patients got the attention of one of the other nurses and told the nurse she had been assaulted by Hobbs. Police said the patient had 'noticeable bruising” on the left side of her face, as well as scratches and bruising on her right arm.
The patient identified Hobbs as the person who assaulted her, police said.
Police said the patient was scared of Hobbs and began to cry when she identified Hobbs as her assailant.
Hobbs was arrested Tuesday afternoon and faces one count of dependent adult abuse causing physical injury, a Class C felony. If convicted, Hobbs faces up to 10 years in prison.
