Former North Liberty man sentenced for distributing meth

Dec. 22, 2014 10:25 am
DAVENPORT - A former North Liberty man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison Friday for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa, 49-year-old Terry J. Burns worked with others to distribute meth in the North Liberty area from July 2013 to Nov. 14, 2013. On Nov. 13, police stopped a vehicle occupied by a co-defendant, Donald L. Engstrom, as it pulled into Burns' home in North Liberty. Police said the vehicle contained 333 grams of high purity meth and $9,255 in cash.
Police said the meth and cash belonged to Engstrom, who was working with Burns to sell the meth.
Engstrom has previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute meth and was sentenced in September 2014 to 10 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Johnson County Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement and the North Liberty and Iowa City police departments.
