FAIRFAX - A chimney fire destroyed a rural Linn County home Tuesday.
Fairfax Fire Chief Michael Sankot said crews were called out to 8307 Wright Brothers Blvd. at 11:26 a.m. Tuesday for a chimney fire. Sankot said the fire spread from the chimney and into the house and roof.
'The homeowner just said let it go,” Sankot said. 'They didn't want anyone to get hurt and they weren't going to rebuild it anyway.”
Sankot said firefighters from Fairfax, Atkins and Swisher removed personal belongings from the two-story home - which belonged to a renter - and then 'we just let the house burn.”
Firefighters cleared the scene around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. Sankot said no injuries were reported.
