IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces prison time for entering an apartment and assaulting a man and woman inside.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, 30-year-old Devin M. McPherson entered an unlocked apartment on Kountry Lane in Iowa City. Police said McPherson confronted a man inside the apartment and a fight ensued. McPherson punched the man several times, police said.
When the man tried to get McPherson out of his apartment, police said McPherson grabbed the victim and threw him on the kitchen counter, where he continued to hit him. The male victim suffered a cut lip, black eye and swelling on his forehead.
Police said a woman in the apartment tried to intervene in the fight. McPherson allegedly pushed the woman into a TV stand and a couch and also spit on the woman. Police said the woman suffered pain in her back.
McPherson was arrested and faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; domestic assault - second offense, a serious misdemeanor; and assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted of all three offenses, McPherson could spend up to 27 years in prison.
