CEDAR RAPIDS - Two teens face charges after a break-in and chase with Cedar Rapids police.
According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, around 4 a.m. Monday, officers attempted to stop a car that had black tape covering its license plate. Police said the driver, later identified as 17-year-old Dante Land, refused to stop. A short chase ensued that ended with Land crashed at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Eighth Street SW.
Police said during the chase, Land and his passenger - 18-year-old Zachary Kauffman - threw items out of the car, including new glass pipes with price tags and burglary tools.
An investigation into the matter showed that a break-in had occurred at Jim's Foods. Police said the front door was broken and items were missing from the store.
Both teens were arrested and face charges of third-degree burglary, a Class D felony. Land faces additional charges of attempting to elude, failure to maintain control, driving with no license and a license plate violation.
The Gazette identifies juveniles who have been charged with felonies.
