CEDAR RAPIDS - A parked truck likely kept an out of control motorist from striking four construction workers.
According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, police responded to a report of a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 380 at H Avenue around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday. Police said a northbound vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Dawn A. Robinson, of Cedar Rapids, was northbound on I-380 when she crossed the median, went over the cable barrier and hit a construction truck.
Buelow said Robinson would have hit the construction workers were it not for the parked truck in the path.
Robinson was taken to the hospital via ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. After she was discharged, Robinson was arrested on charges of drunken driving, driving with a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain control and no insurance. A passenger in her vehicle also had minor injuries.
