Task force finds marijuana grow operation in Iowa City home

Jul. 30, 2014 9:20 am
A marijuana grow operation was discovered in a home in Iowa City last month.
Members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force were called to a home on Mineral Point Lane in Iowa City on June 27 after a Department of Human Services home visit uncovered the grow operation, according to criminal complaints.
A search of the residence turned up 17 marijuana plants, harvested marijuana and paraphernalia inside the home, police said. The weight of the marijuana was approximately 100 grams.
An occupant of the residence, 34-year-old Kenneth E. Roy, admitted to growing the marijuana, police said. Roy was arrested this week and faces charges of controlled substance violation and Iowa drug tax stamp violation. Both offenses are Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
