A Cedar Rapids man faces murder charges in connection with the death of his wife.
Shawn A. Crowley, 43, of 1808 Eastern Dr. SW, faces a first degree murder charge in connection with the death of Chantele M. Crowley, 39. Investigators believe the two were still legally married.
Police were called to 1808 Eastern Dr. SW around 4:58 p.m. Monday when a family member requested a welfare check. When police arrived, they found Chantele Crawley dead inside.
An autopsy will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner's Office, which will determine the cause and manner of death. Court records show that Chantele Crowley sought domestic abuse protective orders from Shawn Crowley on multiple occasions, including as recently as May 29, 2014, online court records show.
Chantele Crowley's death is the eighth homicide in Cedar Rapids this year and third domestic homicide case, records show.
Shawn Crowley was taken into custody this evening and is in the Linn County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
Conviction of first-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
