CORALVILLE — A Coralville man is accused of stealing and destroying a computer because he viewed inappropriate material.
According to a Coralville Police Department criminal complaint, back on Oct. 26, 43-year-old Billy B. Matiyabo was employed by the City of Coralville as a janitor and maintenance person assigned to the public library. Police said at around 5:30 a.m. Oct. 26, Matiyabo ended his shift at the library and left the building.
An hour later, Matiyabo's keyless entry card was used to enter the library. Around that time, a Dell computer tower valued at more than $700 was taken from the children's service desk, police said.
Police said they interviewed Matiyabo, who told officers that while working at the library he viewed 'inappropriate material' on the Internet. In order to cover his tracks, Matiyabo returned to the library, took the computer and destroyed it.
Matiyabo has been arrested and charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. An aggravated misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in jail.
