Reported Iowa City home invasion leads to drug charges

Dec. 23, 2014 8:30 am
IOWA CITY - Iowa City police said a report of a home invasion instead turned up evidence of drug use.
According to Iowa City Police criminal complaints, officers were called to 1016 Davis St. back on May 25 for a report of a possible home invasion involving weapons. Responding officers encountered 32-year-old Jeremy T. Davis standing in front of the residence and appearing extremely upset.
Police said Davis, who lives at the residence, told officers that a door-to-door cleaning crew had forced their way into his home and hurt his housemate, possibly breaking his arm. Police went into the residence with Davis and found various drug paraphernalia on the floor near a mattress where Davis slept.
Davis' housemate returned home a short time later, police said. He was unharmed and unaware of any home invasion.
Police said the drug paraphernalia was sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for testing and came back positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. Davis was arrested this week and now faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody at the Johnson County Jail.
