FAYETTE COUNTY - An Independence man has been accused of vehicular homicide and other charges for a November crash that killed a passenger in his truck.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 1, 18-year-old Anthony K. Fogle was driving on 35th Street west of Oelwein when his Ford F250 truck entered the north ditch. Police said Fogle hit a residential driveway and his truck became airborne. The truck rolled multiple times before coming to rest.
Police said a passenger in Fogle's truck, 20-year-old Branden Samuel, of Wadena, was ejected from the vehicle and killed during the crash. A second passenger, 21-year-old Louis Lumpkin, of Oelwein, was also injured, police said.
As a result of their investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office determined Fogle was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was charged with vehicular homicide, a Class B felony; drunken driving, a serious misdemeanor; reckless driving and seat belt violation, both simple misdemeanors. If convicted, Fogle could spend up to 26 years in prison.
He remains in custody at the Fayette County Jail on a $25,000.
