Dubuque man pleads guilty to sawed-off shotgun charge

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Dubuque man has pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 24-year-old John M. Edmonds made the plea Monday in federal court in Cedar Rapids. Edmonds admitted to possessing a Remington Sportsman model 58 12-gauge shotgun with a partially obliterated serial number and a barrel less than 18 inches on June 14, 2014. The shotgun was not registered to Edmonds in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, authorities said.
Edmonds faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, $100 in special assessments and three years of supervised release. Sentencing will take place at a later date.
