IOWA CITY - Police said they found marijuana and bongs after helping an Iowa City woman get into her apartment.
Iowa City police responded to 29 W. Burlington St. at 12:23 a.m. Friday for a report of a woman who was banging on a window at the apartment complex there. Police said responding officers found the woman - later identified as 19-year-old Jailin Turner - on the balcony, trying to get into the apartment. Police said Turner had lost her keys and was trying to get into her apartment.
Turner was yelling and kicking the window and threw a plastic patio table off the balcony 'in the direction of the officers,” police said.
After failing to contact management or maintenance staff, the Iowa City Fire Department eventually breached Turner's apartment door.
When police entered Turners apartment, they saw two bongs in plain view, according to criminal complaints. Upon further inspection, officers also noticed a grinder and electronic scale.
Police said Turner gave officers consent to search her room and common areas of the apartment. During their search, officers found two potted marijuana plants and two grow lights.
Turner was arrested and faces charges of controlled substance violation, Iowa drug tax stamp violation, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly house.
