Semi rollover snarls traffic on Interstate 380

SWISHER - Traffic has slowed on northbound Interstate 380 as crews clean up an overturned semi that was carrying cattle.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Darin Snedden said troopers responded to northbound Interstate 380 just south of the 10 mile marker around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday for a semi that overturned. Snedden said the semi was hauling approximately 50 cattle. Some of the cattle were injured and others did not survive the crash, though Snedden did not have an exact number.
'They've been working ever since then to remove that cattle that survived the rollover and to kind of clean the scene up,” he said.
The driver of the semi, who has not been identified, was not injured, the state patrol reported.
The right lane of the interstate is closed at the scene of the crash and reports indicate traffic is backed up to North Liberty, a distance of several miles. Snedden said traffic continues to move through the crash zone, albeit slowly.
'There is a backup, but the backup moves at an acceptable rate,” Snedden said. 'They're continuing to work on the clean up.”
Snedden estimated that clean up would continue until the afternoon, but the state patrol was hopeful it would be complete on Tuesday to allow for early holiday travel.
