Oxford man accused of assaulting woman, threatening deputies

Dec. 29, 2014 8:47 am
OXFORD - An Oxford man is accused of assaulting a woman in his home and threatening deputies who responded to the incident.
According to Johnson County Sheriff's Office criminal complaints, around 4:22 a.m. Sunday, 37-year-old Pattrick H. Rios got into a fight with a woman in his Oxford home. Police said when the woman told Rios to leave her alone, he took two kitchen knives and threatened to kill her.
Police said Rios put a pillow over the woman's face and poked her in the forehead with a knife. He also choked the woman, police said.
The woman was able to briefly get away and escape to a bathroom, but Rios followed her and hit her in the thigh with a towel bar, according to criminal complaints. Police said Rios also told the woman to say a prayer and go to sleep 'because it was easier for him to kill her that way.”
The sheriff's office was notified of the assault approximately 90 minutes later and responded to Rios' home, where they found him in a bedroom, partially covered in a blanket. Deputies said when they asked Rios about the assault, he responded, 'We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
When the deputies removed the blanket from Rios to make sure he did not have any weapons, he pulled a knife out from the pillow next to him and took an aggressive stance, police said. After multiple warnings to drop the knife, the deputies deployed a Taser and were able to take Rios into custody.
Police said the woman had injuries to her forehead, neck, thigh and ankle.
Rios was arrested and faces charges of domestic assault with a weapon and assault on police.
