CEDAR RAPIDS - A Marion teen faces theft, assault and weapons charges after an incident on Wednesday.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, officers were called to Plato's Closet, 3647 1st Ave. SE, at 1:37 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a theft in progress. Responding officers located four subjects in the parking lot of the store, including Tony B.D. Trimble, 19, of Marion. Trimble was determined to have taken $65 worth of clothing from the store.
Police said during their confrontation with Trimble, he became argumentative, shoved an officer and took off running. The three other teens also took off, police said.
Trimble was captured in the 100 block of 38th St. NE. Police said they found a handgun that Trimble had dropped. That handgun was reported stolen from a vehicle earlier on Wednesday, police said. Police also found a marijuana pipe on the teen.
Trimble was arrested and he faces charges of assault on peace officers, fourth-degree theft, fifth-degree theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
The other three teens - who are all minors - were also charged with interference with official acts. One of the teens was also charged with carrying weapons for being caught with a knife, which had a blade exceeding the city's ordinance. Two of the teens were taken to the police station and released to their parents. A third was taken to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.
