WATERLOO - The Waterloo Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal August shooting.
Lt. Michael McNamee said Tuesday that 36-year-old Rodolfo Gonzalez, of Waterloo, was arrested late Monday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder. Gonzalez is accused of shooting a Minneapolis man, Celio Posada, shortly after midnight on Aug. 23. The shooting occurred at El Senor Tequila, 118 E. 11th St., McNamee said.
McNamee said police don't yet know if Gonzalez and Posada knew each other or what led to the fatal shooting.
'We don't know exactly what happened yet,” he said. 'We're still trying to piece that together.”
McNamee said witnesses at the bar identified Gonzalez as the shooter. A Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputy stopped Gonzalez a short time later and a handgun was recovered, McNamee said. The caliber of the weapon matched that of the bullet that killed Posada, McNamee said.
First-degree murder is a class A felony, punishable by a mandatory life sentence.
