CEDAR RAPIDS - The public is invited to trick-or-treat with police recruits on Halloween.
Fourteen recruits in the 44th Basic Cedar Rapids Regional Police Academy plan to hand out candy to children from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Sunner Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids. The Halloween event is part of a class project.
In addition to candy, the event features squad cars from the Cedar Rapids, North Liberty and Tipton police departments, as well as the Cedar Rapids police bomb truck and an ambulance from the Area Ambulance Service.
The recruits - from the Cedar Rapids police and fire departments, Iowa Department of Corrections and North Liberty and Tipton police departments, graduate on Nov. 4.
Sunner park is located just east of the Cedar Rapids Police Station, near Eighth Avenue and Valor Way SW.
