CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of starting his mother's garage on fire.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said police and fire investigators were called to 1309 21st Ave. SW around 8:30 a.m. Thursday after a woman reported coming home and finding scorch marks on her detached garage. The woman told police she suspected her son, 18-year-old Kyle W. Netolicky, was the culprit. Netolicky lives next door, the woman told police.
Authorities investigated and found what they believed to be road flares and an 'ignitable liquid” next to the garage, and determined Netolicky intentionally started the garage on fire, Buelow said.
Officers interviewed Netolicky at his home and, following the interview, initiated an arrest. Police said Netolicky resisted arrest, but was taken into custody. He now faces charges of second-degree arson and interference with official acts.
