Social media post leads to theft arrest for Marion man

MARION - A Marion man was arrested for theft when his girlfriend posted a photo of the purse he swiped to social media, authorities said.

According to the Linn County Attorney's Office and Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner, on July 20, 18-year-old Colton S. Kunde stole a purse from an unlocked car at a Marion woman's home. The Louis Vuitton purse was valued at $1,500.

Gardner said Kunde gave the purse to his girlfriend - and that's where his troubles started.

'The first thing she did was post a photo of it to social media,” Gardner said.

Gardner said Kunde's girlfriend and the victim were acquainted on social media. The victim saw the photo and recognized her stolen purse.

Deputies went to Kunde's residence and found the stolen purse, according to a criminal complaint.

Kunde has been arrested and faces one count of second-degree theft.
