Iowa City man accused of sexually abusing young girl

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of sexually abusing a young girl.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, the victim - a girl under the age of 12 - reported during a forensic interview that she had been the victim of ongoing sexual abuse at the hands of Robert D. Gathright. The victim told police the abuse had last occurred in November 2015, but there had been other occasions prior to that.
Police said the victim inappropriately touched the girl, even when she struggled to get away from him.
Gathright has been arrested and faces one count of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
