IOWA CITY - A Coralville man wanted in connection with a 2014 burglary is accused of assaulting a man at an Iowa City elementary school.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 1 a.m. Sunday, 19-year-old Donald D. Marshall was driving around Iowa City with 22-year-old Daveon A. Curry and another man. Police said Marshall began to tell the other man that he thought he was a 'snitch” and got Marshall's friends sent to prison. Marshall allegedly convinced Curry the other man was a snitch, as well.
Police said Marshall pulled into the parking lot of Lemme Elementary School, 3100 Washington St., and stopped the car. He and Curry then assaulted the other man by punching and kicking him.
The assault victim was able to run and call 911. Police said he was able to identify one of his assailants by name and also gave a clothing description of Marshall. Marshall and Curry were found in the Chauncey Swan parking ramp near City Hall and placed under arrest.
Both men face one count of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.
Marshall was also wanted in connection with a burglary alleged to have occurred on Aug. 26, 2014. Police said on that date, Marshall and two others entered a Lucas Street apartment and assaulted a person inside. Marshall and his accomplices then made off with cash, a phone and other items, police said. Marshall was identified by multiple witnesses and a co-defendant, police said.
For that incident, Marshall faces one count of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
