VINTON - A Vinton man is accused of attacking a woman and police.
According to the Vinton Police Department, officers and medical personnel were dispatched to 211 E. Responding officers found a 37-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries on and around her head. Roger L. Hartman, 38, was also found at the scene and was suffering from minor injuries.
Hartman and the woman were taken to Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. While there, Hartman assaulted two officers, including a Benton County Sheriff's Office deputy and a Vinton police officer, police said. The two officers suffered minor injuries before Hartman was restrained.
Hartman has been arrested and faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; willful injury, a Class C felony; and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer causing injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted on all four counts, he could spent up to 39 years in prison.
