CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids restaurant sustained 'considerable damage” to its kitchen area in an early morning fire Saturday.
According to a news release, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to Jerseys, 5761 C St. SW, at 5:03 a.m. Saturday for a report of flames coming from the roof. Responding crews encountered heat coming from the roof vents, but no visible flames, firefighters said.
Firefighters entered the restaurant and found smoke throughout and a 'small, residual fire” near the stove area, according to the news release. Firefighters said the restaurant's fire suppression system helped to knock down the fire; however, there was still 'heavy” damage to the kitchen.
Once the fire was extinguished and fans were used to clear the smoke from the restaurant, the scene was turned over to a fire investigator. The cause is undetermined at this time.
