IOWA CITY - Lazer, a former Johnson County Sheriff's Office K-9, died on Monday.
According to a post on the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Lazer was put to sleep after being afflicted with a medical condition. Lazer had retired last May after a 12-year career with deputy Chris Langenberg.
Lazer joined the sheriff's office in June 2003. He was trained in narcotics detection and apprehension.
'Lazer and his partner were relentless on the hunt for bad guys,” Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said in the Facebook post. 'They constantly put themselves in harm's way to keep everyone around them safe. They have contributed to countless arrests.”
Lazer and Langenberg were also the recipients of several awards, Pulkrabek said.
