Police: Train stopped for drunken Iowa man who fell on tracks

IOWA CITY - A train was forced to stop for a drunken Iowa City man who fell across the tracks early Thursday morning, police said.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers were dispatched to the rail yard in the 700 block of S. Gilbert Street around 2:40 a.m. Thursday for a report of a man who had fallen on the train tracks. Police said a train had to be stopped for the fallen man.

Police found the man, identified as 18-year-old Jaron R. Gulick, in the area rail yard. Gulick was pushing a moped that had no keys that he had no 'logical explanation” for possessing, police said.

Gulick smelled like alcohol, showed signs of intoxication and told police he drank a 'good amount,” which was confirmed by his .147 percent blood alcohol content just before 3 a.m., according to criminal complaints.

Police said they also found a fake Arkansas license with Gulick's name and photograph on it.

Gulick was arrested and faces charges of possession of a fictitious license, public intoxication and trespass.
